Description
Wine Description: Coral pink colour. This elegant medium dry Rose may well be summer in a bottle with its fragrances of gardenia, raspberry and lychee, but its full palate makes it ideal for all year round drinking. Finishes with hints of vanilla and apple flavours.
Food Match: Great with salads, hot smoked fish, gently spiced soups.
Winery Information: The Bolney Wine Estate story began in 1972, when owners Janet and Rodney Pratt planted three acres of vines to create what was then only the sixth commercial vineyard in England. Experiments with a number of grapes varieties, clones and rootstocks over the years enabled them to find the best matches for the site
Bolney Wine Estate is located on the edge of the South Downs, around 14 miles away from the UK’s coast, and comprises five unique vineyard sites at around 36m (118ft) above sea level. The vines here are between two and twelve years old and are planted at a density of 2,470 vines/ha. In addition to the Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive on the site, the vineyards became home to a handful of other varieties that have, over the years, proved very successful.
Sam Linter, Rodney and Janet’s daughter, took the reins in the mid-1990s and is now ably assisted by Assistant Winemaker Liz Garrett, who returned from a vintage at Cloudy Bay in 2013. Both are graduates of the esteemed Plumpton College in East Sussex, England. Today, Bolney Wine Estate has grown to 39 acres (15.8ha), with a state-of-the-art winery added in 2005. The Estate, under Sam’s exacting eye, specialises in producing premium red, white, rose and sparkling English wines that have won numerous awards, and legions of fans, all over the world. In 2012, Bolney Wine Estate won UK Wine Producer of the Year in the International Wine and Spirit Competition.
